Rahel Belatchew, Founder and Principal Architect, Belatchew Arkitekter, represented Sweden during DesignMarch, Iceland’s Design Festival, which took place in Reykjavik March 15-18.

Iceland Design Center, the organization behind DesignMarch, together with the Swedish Embassy in Reykjavik, invited Belatchew to represent Sweden during the Design Diplomacy event, which took place at the Swedish ambassador’s residence.

Design Diplomacy is a series of discussion events held in ambassadors’ residences. The concept combines the prestigious diplomatic setting with informal discussions and builds vital international links for the embassies, speakers and the audience alike. The aim of the project is to make new intercultural connections, strengthen ongoing international relationships and to promote design and architecture through dialogue and experience.

Belatchew spoke about experiences with sustainable and flexible architecture in an international context. Belatchew was also invited to give a speech about the necessity of flexible architecture at DesignMarch’s Architectural Symposium.

“It is an honor to have been invited to the Design Diplomacy event at the Swedish residence and to have the opportunity to give a lecture at the Architectural Symposium,” said Belatchew.
