With the continued and growing popularity in quartz surfacing, Eco by Cosentino®, a cousin to Silestone quartz surfacing, may be a good choice for those looking for a more environmentally-conscious option. Of the materials used to manufacture ECO by Cosentino, 75 percent are recycled content such as mirror, glass, porcelain, earthenware, natural stone scraps from quarries and vitrified ash. Even 94 percent of the water used in its manufacturing process is re-used, according to the manufacturer. These recycled materials are held together with a resin binder via a vibro-compaction process, much like quartz surfacing and other engineered stone. This makes the product nonporous and durable, so it is highly scratch-, stain- and heat-resistant.

It is available in 11 colors, including White Diamond; Riverbed; Forest Snow; Luna; Red Pine; Terra; Iron Ore; Polar Cap; Starlight; Cream Stone (pictured here); and Grey Moss. It is available in 1.2, 2 and 3cm thicknesses, in slabs that are 327 by 159cm (128.74 by 62.6 in.) and comes in two finishes: Polished and special-order Leather (that is only available in certain colors).

The material has LEED, Greenguard Gold, NSF and ISO 14001 certifications, and has been earmarked as Cradle-to-Cradle and offers a Environmental Declaration of Products that certifies its Life-Cycle Analysis (LCA).
