Modern Surfaces, a partnership of manufacturers and trade partners who have aligned to create a new resource for designers looking for beautiful yet sustainable surfaces, recently debuted at KBIS 2017 in Orlando. Made up of sustainable surfacing brands Durat, IceStone and PaperStone, along with distributors CaraGreen and Cerami Inc., Modern Surfaces is driven to create beauty and utility out of waste, with the goal of impacting and improving lives far beyond concepts and applications.

With the rise of cafe culture, coffee shops and bars are often distinguished by the materials used to create the desired atmosphere. These venues often target young adults or millennials, creative or artistic types, as well as those who come together to work, study, socialize or just unwind. These traits align with the core values of Modern Surfaces, which provides a unique, sustainable and attractive way to relate the spaces to the people in them. Durat, PaperStone and IceStone provide engaging opportunities for cafes and bars to tie both pre- and post-consumer recycled products into their design, creating a more sustainable, aesthetically pleasing atmosphere.

Modern Surfaces brands are featured in the largest coffee chain in the United States as well as in several Seattle’s Best Coffee stores. The brands can also be found in various cafes located in Equinox Fitness locations across the country. Whole Foods also features Modern Surfaces brands in many of their in store cafes. Architect TSC Design (now part of Mancini Duff) utilized Modern Surfaces brand IceStone when designing in-office bars at the Heineken US Headquarters located in New York City. Many other bars have followed suit including Strike (Long Island, NY), Jackson’s Bar & Oven (Calif.), Just Fresh (Charlotte, NC), among others.
